CPA License

At this point, you may still be thinking about what you want to major in and are probably still exploring various career paths.

If you are considering a career in accounting, you should begin to pursue your license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). A CPA license is a respected credential that can lead to increased opportunity, job security, and salary potential.

Many careers in accounting require candidates to be eligible to take the CPA Exam in the state in which they want to work. It is important to make sure that you will meet your state's requirements when you graduate. Meet with a faculty advisor or career counselor or check the NASBA website for eligibility rules.

Internships

During your junior year, it is important to start preparing for internship recruiting. Internships are a terrific way to get real-world experience prior to graduation and, frequently, internships lead to full-time job offers! Internships are typically available to students who will graduate 12-18 months after they intern.

On many campuses, KPMG recruits students who will graduate on a four-year track in the fall of their third year. Students on a five-year track will recruit in the fall of their fourth year. KPMG recruits on some campuses in the spring, so it is important to check with your Career Center so that you know when we will be on your campus.

  • Read your resume once more and be prepared to speak to it.
  • Practice communicating concisely your skills and experience.
  • Grab a friend and ask them to go over sample interviewing questions with you.
  • Choose clothes that are comfortable, give you confidence and boost your professional image. That means a conservative suit, hosiery and simple shoes, light makeup, reasonable nail polish, plus limited jewelry and perfume for women, and a conservative suit and tie, dark socks, dress shoes and no visible jewelry (except a watch) for men.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to the interview. Don't be late!
